What the gallery is actually like to get into and move around, and what this website does. Where something is not yet good enough, it says so.
(b) — In the gallery
- Step-free entrance from Albemarle Street, with a level threshold and an automatic door.
- Lift access from the ground floor to the gallery on the third floor, and a step-free route through both rooms.
- An accessible WC on the third floor, beside the gallery entrance.
- Folding seats in every room, and a chair brought to you on request for as long as you want it.
- Assistance dogs are welcome throughout.
- Large-print labels and a printed room sheet are at the desk. Ask and we will read a label aloud.
- Quiet hours on Tuesday mornings, 10:00 – 12:00: no music, lower lighting, fewer visitors.
- Street parking is limited. Tell us in advance and we will hold the nearest bay and meet you at the door.
(c) — On this website
- Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline.
- Images of artworks carry descriptive alternative text naming the artist and the work.
- Text can be enlarged to 200% without content being lost or overlapping.
- Forms have real labels, and errors are described in words rather than colour alone.
- We test with a screen reader on each significant release, and we log what fails.
Not good enough yet
Our exhibition PDFs are not fully tagged for screen readers, and some older installation photographs have short alternative text. Both are being corrected. If you need any document in another format, ask and we will send it.
